Spokane Valley Heritage Museum & The Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit

 

The Spokane Valley Heritage Museum (southside of Sprague just WEST of Pines Road), scored a big coup. They have a Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit going on right now through August 2nd. 

The exhibit is on work and the American worker. Divided into four parts: the way we work, where we work, why we work and how we work. Now that might sound dull but I assure you, the many B&W images alone are worth going to see. Please do go see for yourself; you'll not be sorry to have spent the effort and time.

Spokane Valley Heritage Museum........ Visited There Yet?

 A field trip to the Spokane Valley Heritage Museum will be a treat for your genealogy minds, I guarantee.  This is especially so if you live in the Spokane Valley. Note that they are opened "year round, Wednesday through Saturday." Good cold-day get-a-way for sure.  Maybe a post-Thanksgiving outing?????

Need an idea for a summer educational-staycation?  How about a visit to the Spokane Valley Heritage Museum where you can show your children how Grandma used to get water at her kitchen sink!

First it was the Opportunity Town Hall, built in 1912, and which is today on the Historic Landmarks Register. Since August 18, 2005, the historic building has been home to the Spokane Valley Heritage Museum. Jayne Singleton has been the motivating force behind the coming together of this museum and is currently the director.

The mission of the Spokane Valley Heritage Museum is “to collect, preserve and exhibit the history and culture of the Spokane Valley for the education and inspiration of the community.”

Collecting the history of an area bordered on four sides by Peone Prairie (north), Havana Street (west), Post Falls (east) and Rockford (south) has been no small undertaking. Today the collection includes 2245 items in house, which includes 1188 objects or artifacts, 903 photos and 497 items of reference in their archives.

The Spokane Valley Heritage Museum's newest exhibit is titled:

"Isaac Stevens, Man in Hurry"

"One ferry ride across the Spokane River may have launched the Valley's history as a way station for travelers and a stopping point for homesteaders, the Army, the territorial Governor, Isaac Stevens and Captain John Mullan."

The museum is open Wednesday to Friday, 11:00am to 4:00pm and Saturday 11:00 to 5:00pm. Address is 12114 East Sprague (close to Pines) in the Spokane Valley. Phone is 509-922-4570. Their website is www.valleyheritagecenter.org......and their website is a dandy! 

The Spokane Valley Heritage Museum is worth the time and effort for a visit. Take a friend and go to lunch and make a day of it!

Museum Exhibit Celebrates Area's Farming Legacy
