Ulster Historical Foundation USA Lecture Tour

USA Lecture Tour, 05 March 2017 Tacoma, Washington
Want to discover your Irish and Scots-Irish ancestors?
Many people believe that researching Irish ancestors is impossible because of the destruction of the Public Record Office in 1922. While many records were destroyed, others survived and large collections have come online in recent years.
Join Fintan Mullan and Gillian Hunt from the Foundation during their annual USA lecture tour to learn how to get the most out of Irish resources and records, gain strategies for breaking down brick walls, and grasp important historical context that may help fill in gaps in your research.
Whether you are just beginning your Irish research or have been at it for years, you won’t want to miss these workshops!

December 2016 Christmas Party School Days

Our annual Christmas party was fun, but we did have some business to conduct before the fun started. We voted for our 2017 officers.

If you look on the previous blog post you will see a long table full of the goodies baked by our members which are all wonderful and non fating also. Now the photos of the various items, photos, scrapbooks, year books and even a prom dress. (See the latest digital digest for the story of that dress.) Even more fun was the stories of the items brought in. I did not get all the names of which item was brought in by which member so I will not list any names, but to see the photos better click on them and they will be larger.

EWGS Christmas Party A FUN Success!

Those attending the EWGS Christmas Party (planned by Mary Holcomb) had a good time! The theme was "School Days." Here is your president, Patricia Bayonne in 1948 and the high school graduation photo of our new treasurer, Dianne Bongarts:

Here is Marge Mero posing by her high school prom dress:

And there were yummy Christmas goodie treats galore!!

Sorry you missed our December meeting and party, but don't miss our January meeting and luncheon.......... check our website for details.  See you then!

Spotlight on Mary Malone Holcomb

Mary "Kathy" Malone Holcomb has been a tremendous asset to the EWGS for many years. You know her as the busily-scurrying hospitality person at our meetings and workshops. She has also organized the EWGS December meeting for several years and she is currently serving as EWGS Vice- President and is a member of the Tuesday Gals who serve in the library on Tuesdays.

But bet you didn't know that she was named Mary because "all first daughters of all daughters are named Mary." Her parents, Robert Malone, born in Indiana, and Mattie Myree Hutchins, born in North Carolina. WHen she's not doing genealogy, and working for the cemetery causes, or doing EWGS work, she enjoys gardening and needlework.

Her favorite color is blue and her favorite dessert "are the lemon cookies at Nordstom's."

Meet Mary Malone Holcomb!

A Super Freebie from Ancestry/Family Tree Magazine

FamilyTree Magazine offers a freebie book download with almost every issue. The Oct-Nov 2016 issue offered the booklet shown in the pix above. It really is free; no strings attached.  Click to

ftu.familytreemagazine.com/free-ancestry-search-tips

Then you'll be prompted to enter your email (so they know where to send your freebie booklet to) and then click Download. That's all there is to it.

Most of these Ancestry-Family Tree Magazine-Family Tree University booklets are compilations of articles from Family Tree Magazine. Some are a bit old and some are quite new. But hey, free is good in any case, right?
